Hey ladies! This is Cass from cassandrebeccai.com. Today, I’m coming at you with a question from one of my viewers. She asks this:
Hey Cass! It’s Nadya. I’m not sure if you remember me…
Girl, I remember you.
I hope all is well. I love your line and I just started using your products because you are an inspiration…
Thank you so much, Nadya.
And, I want my hair to grow as long as yours and longer.
But, I have a question. Do you believe that hair grow when it’s dirty because I feel that’s how mine grows. But, I wanted to start your hair regimen. But, if you believe it grows when it’s dirty then, I’ll use your products but, wash my hair every few weeks or so… Well, sometimes, I go on even longer. Please let me know what I should do. Thanks!
Nadya, that is an excellent question and I am sure that there are so many women who have that question. I have actually heard it said quite a few times that our hair grows better when it’s dirty. But on the contrary, it’s not so much that our hair grows better when it’s dirty but, our thrives in low manipulation styles.
So, most of us who leave our hair dirty for weeks at a time, it’s not that our hair maintaining more length because you’re not washing it but, rather you are doing less manipulations to your hair. You’re touching it less. You keep it on one braided style. You leave it on a corn rose style for a while.
What happens is your hair has less of an opportunity to fall off at the ends. I would recommend washing your hair when it is dirty because one of the things that you have to understand is that few scalp will attract fungus and dirt because you sweat from here. Once your scalp gets fungus or bacteria, you can set yourself up for balding and other growth issues with your hair.
I would also recommend washing your hair every so often or as often as you can because your hair actually does not do well when it’s very dirty. In fact, what happens is that the dirt prevents your hair from holding in moisture because there is a coat of dirt on your strands of your hair.
Nadya, you need to do what works for you. If every three weeks is fine then, do that. But I would recommend that if you’re going to go that long or even longer without washing your hair that you should definitely be using a light oil that has rosemary essential oil in it or tea tree oil to prevent any fungus or bacterial growth on your scalp.
Thank you so much for sending in that question. It was really a good one.
