Hey ladies! This is Cass from cassandrebeccai.com. Today, I’m going to show you how I de-tangle my hair. My hair is a mess right now. For two weeks, I’ve done absolutely… well, I can’t say nothing but, where I live it rains a lot. The rain hasn’t been falling on my hair, haven’t been consistently moisturizing. So, I know my hair is probably just kind of tangled and it’s not doing good. I’m so happy for this break because my hair needs some TLC like right now.
Things You’ll Need:
Anyway, few things that you’re going to need are a wide-toothed comb, some water, and [?] serum, whatever you like to mix in there, and a leave-on conditioner. Whatever you like to use to help your tangles to come out.
Now, a lot of people have been asking me about my tangle teaser, how I like it, do I use it? I love my tangle teaser. You’ve probably seen me use it quite a few times to kind of, you know, get my edges and all that stuff. But, I don’t use my tangle teaser to tease my tangles.
Even though I think it’s an awesome brush and I do recommend people getting it, I don’t use it to de-tangle my hair. I find that because of the bristles that are close together, even though they’re not hard, my hair has a tendency to be pulled by it and I would much rather have something with just a few, you know, spread apart… how do you call it, I don’t know pixel or whatever than like a whole bunch of these when I’m de-tangling my hair.
Usually before I take a comb to my hair, I’ll do a little, just kind of going through it with my fingers, nothing crazy. I use the spray first. Now, don’t spray too much water because then, it becomes much more fragile when it’s really wet.
You need a little bit of water just so that it gives your hair a little bit of flexibility. And then, I use just a little tiny bit of a leave-on conditioner.
Ugh, honestly, I don’t like de-tangling my hair but it’s really important because you lose less hair than that, less tangling, less breaking, you know the deal. But, you can’t de-tangle your hair and do it like a crazy wild woman like your hair is some kind of wild beast because it’s not. Even though it might look wild because you know, mine did, it’s really fragile. So, you definitely want to just take your time. Don’t be in a hurry and… you see the dirt at the end, right? Yes, I know it’s nasty. My hair needs to be washed.
At this point, I will usually loosely twist it. These are the same twists that I wash my hair.
I know that somebody is probably going to ask me how many times I comb through my hair. I comb through it as many times as I need to take out the tangles. However, my hair is kinky curly hair so, there won’t be a time when the comb just kind of go through it. It’s not silky straight so, it won’t just run through it.
But, I know when my hair is relatively de-tangled when I also don’t see anymore the krinkles, or any parts of the hairstyle I’ve been doing this past week were, there were some krinkles in my hair so, the hair kind of look relatively, you know, soft and fluffy and as you’re running through it, there are less and less tangles.
So, this is my hair all de-tangled and put into these twists. I’m going to go and wash my hair. Actually, I’m going to put in probably a treatment in it but it isn’t really necessary right now.
I’m going to go do that. I know you probably have questions. Leave them down below. I will do my best to not only answer questions but, give you alternatives in terms of different ways that you can de-tangle your hair.
I do want to say that there are different ways to de-tangle and you need to find the one that’s best for you, the one where not only will you be able to de-tangle your hair but, use the least hair.
If water doesn’t work for you, don’t use water. If all you use is leave-on conditioner, perfect. Keep using leave on conditioner to de-tangle your hair.
Thank you so much for watching. I will see you soon and have a good one. Bye!

I’ve tried Jojoba, Olive and Coconut. I just get better results with wet detangling with lots of slippy condish. I usually pre-poo with a condish/oil mix without detangling, then detangle with my hair in the shower. I’ve tried both methods and this one seems to be the least damaging for me. I think my hair is becoming more fragile as it’s getting longer.

My apologies
pretty hair
Goodness Sis. You are incredibly patient. Lol it takes me two days to detangle & twist my short fro.
Thanks for the share. So true about the tangle tweezer, I leart along the way not to use it to ditangle my short groth but after I have detangles with wide tooth or fingers first.
It probably is, the ends are getting older. For me, the whole dry detangling thing works better if you use a non-penetrative oil. Like Sweet Almond or Grapeseed Oil. But since my hair got longer, I don’t do it either. I go through my whole wash day process, then I finger detangle with my leave-in. I say if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. I tried the whole ‘detangling prior to washing’ thing, and my hair would tangled again by the time I got around to styling it. So stick with what works.
You have a fabulous webpage. I hope mine will be equally as nice one day. Keep it up.
How do you wash your hair with the twists in?
Hey Racquel! I pour shampoo on my scalp and let the soapy water run down each twist. I take out one twist, rinse it out with water then I re-twist it. I do that for each twist one at a time. I also put the conditioner and rinse it out one twist at a time.
I hate detangling my hair but that’s because I have NO PATIENCE…but I’ll try to be more patient with it in the future. I use your method (minus the leave-in conditioner) but with less patience hence I’ve actually managed to break my wide-toothed comb in HALF! So next time I’ll be more patient.
Michelle- you’ve got it- PATIENCE is KEY!
I am so late with responding to you, but I just found my inbox after YouTube made changes. Thanks again xoxo.
Hi there, wow, you’re hair looks exactly like mine… but longer. (i’m freaking out with excitement)… it’s so so consistantly thick from scalp to ends… something I’m currently trying to pursue, but do you have issues with itchy scalp, and if you do how do you go about it?
Hey sweetie- I do not have issues with itchy scalp but if you do a light oil like almond oil is always good. Check out the almond elixir by eden’s heart. It is very good for itchy scalps.
Great video, I have started to put my hair in twists to wash it as well. I use a mixture of oil and water and a wide teeth comb.
Yes- you’ve def got the right idea! Simple is best! thanks for commenting.
