I think extensions are a great way to grow out afro-textured hair but only when they are meticulously cared for.
When our hair is locked away in twists or braids it’s so easy for us to forget about it and leave it with no care for weeks at a time but that (in my opinion) is a recipe for disaster!
Without care hair can become extremely dry and upon take down your hair will break more easily and look tattered and abused. Most of the times all that length has to be cut off because its been dried out so badly.
Some people like to be able to read a transcript while watching the videos, or just read the transcript without even listening. If you are one of those people, not to worry – We’ve made the transcript available for you below.
Hey ladies! This is Cass from cassandrebeccai.com where I show you how to take care of Afro-textured hair. Today, I’m going to show you how to take care of your hair when it’s in extensions.
A lot of us women think that when out hair is in extensions we can just leave it be without taking care of it or doing the proper maintenance your hair needs in order for your hair to stay moist and stay in a position where it can continue to retain length.
But, I want to tell you that that’s not the case.
Braids and extensions give you the opportunity to take care of your hair in a really easy way all the while your hair is being protected. I want to show you how I have been taking care of my hair while it’s been in these extensions.
How I Care for My Hair in Extensions
Every single night, every single day, at least twice a day, I take time to spritz my hair with water and use my butter to seal it all in. It looks something like this. I’m going to show you how I do it.
So, I part my hair in half like this and I take my spray bottle and just spray my hair, especially at the ends because I know for me, that’s the driest part.
Now, my hair doesn’t reach all the way down here, but most of my ends are probably right here. So, I spray a little. I prefer using water because it will penetrate these braids much easier than say, using a moisturizer.
So, I use water and then, I take a little bit of some butter, get it between my hands, and squeeze it through the braids, the extensions.
Why We Need to Do it
I know that some women are afraid to put water in their hair when it’s in extensions. But, I want to encourage you to use that opportunity to make sure your hair is moisturized. I know we’re scared of frizzies and all that stuff and it may cause the look not to last as long. But, in my opinion, my hair, my real hair is more important than the fake hair.
So, I’ll probably have this in for two weeks but, at the end of the two weeks, I want when I take out my hair, that my hair just looks really good and it’s healthy because even though it’s been in a protective style where the hair is significantly longer than my ends, so that my ends are really protected, I can still enjoy great hair when I’m done with these styles.
I don’t have to experience dried out hair or breakage because the whole time that my hair has been in the extensions, it’s actually been protected.
So, that’s my technique and I do it twice a day because it really doesn’t take me much time, and I think that it’s going to really help my hair to retain the length that I desire for it. Two, and also, it’s going to help my hair to stay really moist.
If you have any questions about how to keep your hair moist in extensions, you can definitely send me your comments or questions in the boxes below, or you can go to my website, cassandrebeccai.com.
I also want to say that because I’m only going to have this on for two weeks, I’m going to wash my hair when the two weeks is over. But, if I choose to have them in for longer, I probably would wash them every two weeks and basically make sure that I’m washing especially my scalp and allowing the shampoo to drizzle over my hair.
I think it’s important to just keep your hair moist, continue to treat it the way that you know it must be treated in order for you to have really, really nice hair.
I think through the whole process of wearing extensions, your hair will and does retain length if you choose to take care of it.
Thank you so much for watching. Again, if you have questions, leave them with me, and I’ll definitely get back to it as soon as I can. Share, like, subscribe and I hope to talk to you soon. Bye!
I love how big you did your twists. Every time I try and do mine like that I always end up having many parts and smaller twists. Thanks for the tips. Just so happens I’m wearing long kinky twists now.
you are such a positive soul thanks for the informative vlogs and keep up the good work. congrats on the new addition god bless.
You are so lovely and I love the way that you present your videos. Thanks for sharing.
aww! thank you so much ceah01. My pleasure
you’re welcome!
You have such adorable and decent outfits, some fashion show would be lovely!!! Not fashion show as fashions, but something like dress of the day or something like that.
thanks a lot TheVGinia! I’ll def think about that. Thanks for commenting!
Hey Cassandra, i got a link to your yoututbe channel from a hair forum and i have to say i really love your hair and all the info you share. I also checked out your product hair line EH. I absolutely love the ingredients cause they aare all ingredients that my hair had responded well to individually. But my question is, i am currently 8 months post relaxer, but i need to keep my relaxed ends until another year. Have your products been used successfully on other relaxed hair. I know each head of hair is different but i would like to hear other relaxed hair testimonials. Thanks for your time.
Ronie, thanks for leaving this comment. As for the answer to your question- yes my products have successfully been used on other relaxed heads. Just take a look at this comment from one relaxed customer of mine just yesterday in regards to a picture I posted on fb of the Oatmilk n’ Honey Daily Conditioner, “I just proved this product again this week. My hair was dry and very brittle (lack of care…smh) and Oatmilk n’ Honey came through for me. I’m amazed. Its genuis and genuine.” Carissa.
Because your hair is relaxed you may not want to incorporate a heavy butter into your regimen because it will weigh your hair down, but everything else in my line is suitable for someone who is relaxed or transitioning. Also, I have sample sizes of each product so you never have to spend on a product and find that it doesn’t work for you only to have most of it go to waste. I hope this reply has helped you to make a better informed decision!
Can you do a tutorial on these braids?
hey sweetie, check out my “marley twists” on my channel. I show you how to do them there.
Thank you so much for your reply. I did order the deep conditioner, and the oatmilk and honey. Can’t wait to try them. Will be using on my transitioning hair and my daughter’s 4a all natural hair. Will definitely leave a feedback here and also with my LHCF ladies. Thanks again for sharing, and may God continue to bless you, and your business.
nice video… but i really like your top! where did you purchase such a unique top? if you dont mind me asking
Thanks! I actually don’t remember since it’s been a couple of years, but I know it was a cheap one (less than $10)!
Hey, do you have problems with thinning edges? Or do you do anything to combat it?
Can you wear the extensions long term? Like over a month or so if you keep retwisting it?
Hi Cass, do u moisture your roots?
I this was so helpful. I shared it on my page on fb. Thanks alot cos it helped some many ladies.
Beautiful hair, thanks
Such a great video thanks
Great advice, wish I had found this video sooner. I just came out of my long marley kinky twists I did..my hair was itching way to bad. I know next time to keep moisture and wash my scalp often.
Hey
I’m loving this style so much that I want to try it very soon
but I hava a question. After you take off the twists and if you want to keep doing this style, you can wear the same extensions or it’s best to buy new ones?
Thank you
thanks! yes I use the same extensions until I feel that I want to start fresh- after all the extensions will attract dirt and I don’t care to use the same dirty hair over and over again.
I AGREE GIRL. I LOVE TO WASH MY HAIR EVEN IF I HAVE EXTENSIONS IN MY HAIR. IT JUS FEELS SO GUD.
thank you
When you first placed the Marley twist was your hair damp, wet, or blow dried? On your demo it was on previously twisted hair, but I don’t think you said if initially it was dry. Thanks
Sorry, once I rewatched the video I saw that you moisturized and used gel. No reply needed. Thxs
dont know if you notice but your videos get cut off almost half way and is unavailable..
hey hon- it doesn’t seem to be happening on this end. Not sure what’s going on…
How did you keep the twists at night?
Hey Cassandre, you said you use butter in your hair to lock in moisture. What type of butter are you talking about, is it Shea butter?
